Semi Trailer

Team Begins to Prepare Infinium for ASC 2010

The Team's semi trailer and crate returned to Ann Arbor late last month from it's long journey back from Australia. Since its return, team members have been emptying equipment out of the semi and using some of it to finish work on a mule car project. Infinium has been brought into the Team's workspace where race crew members who participated in the World Solar Challenge last fall have been helping new members to become acquainted with the car and its subsystems.

A Race Committee has been selected to head the race preparation efforts as the Executive Committee elected for the 2011 project will continue focusing on designs for the next Michigan Solar Car. Team members from every division have applied to be part of the race crew heading to the American Solar Challenge this coming June. Race crew member selections are expected to be announced in the next couple of weeks.

The Semi Trailer

The recent mock race would have been a lot less enjoyable without the semi trailer the team brought to Australia from Michigan. The trailer was packed with machines, extra raw materials, spare parts, and tools for every circumstance. The semi trailer traveled to Australia with the help of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics who generously shipped the semi trailer across the ocean and Air Sea Forwarding who sponsored the freight forwarding.

Having the trailer was a valuable resource for the team providing much needed storage area and shelter from the unusual weather. The semi trailer served as a mobile machine shop allowing the team to make repairs immediately and protect the car when the strength of the storm increased.

Not only is the trailer invaluable to the team’s productivity, it also looks great thanks to a wrap provided by Fine Lines Graphics of Clinton Township in Michigan. The wrap was printed and installed flawlessly and will represent the team and the University well during the race through the Australian Outback!

Semi Trailer Begins its Voyage to Australia

Last Friday, the team’s semi trailer left the port of Savannah, Georgia on a Wallenius Wilhelmsen vessel, and is now on its way to Melbourne, Australia. Prior to shipping, the team spent many hours cleaning, packing, organizing, and documenting the items in our trailer. We wanted to make sure that we will be prepared for almost anything while in the Outback--without the trailer we would not have access to the necessary tools and materials in Australia that we need to work on Infinium.

The team would like to thank all of our sponsors for making the transport of our semi trailer possible. This includes Wallenius Wilhelmsen, ASF Logistics, Penske Truck Rental, and America’s Transportation Resources.
